One Response to “Nutrition Worksheet (Spotlight on Eating disorders)?”
1. Carbohydrates. Haven’t you ever heard of marathoners eating pasta the night before the run?
2. This one could actually apply to most of the answers, but the most likely one is night-eating syndrome. If you have judgemental parents, you probably would rather not eat with them around. This is also only possible if the child is not restricted by curfew and whatnot.
4. Baryophobia. I looked up “fear of fat” online and found baryophobia.
5. I actually didn’t know what the “female athletic triad” was, so I looked it up. The answer is D. The female athletic triad is basically a condition in female athletes (hence “female athletic”) where they eat less in order to maximize performance. Eating less and training harder does all of the things listed except increase muscle mass.
6. The answer is A: BDD is a condition where one believes he/she has an external defect, and will do anything to conceal/remove it. However, because the feeling is irrational, it does not go away (maybe Michael Jackson had BDD?). The eating disorder part is probably the result of their social isolation.
8. This one I’m uncertain, but I believe the answer is false, because, although athletes need more calories, they can get those calories from carbohydrates instead of fat. Fat is highly concentrated energy, and is not, by any means, a requirement for athletes (obviously they should have some, but not more than their couch-potato brethren).
