Eating disorders have always declined in times of famine. Any society can have eating disorders, but in times of famine they should decrease…

Because eating disorders are cultural as much as they are physical and psychological.

Heather is triggered by Adrienne. I am surprised Remuda Ranch gives people “Big sisters” especially when it’s well known in the ED community that only severely anorexic girls go there which I imagine is very triggering. I also do not think it’s a wise choice for Adrienne to keep Heather in her life.

Eating Disorders go back centuries, before everything that so stereotypically today get blamed for causing eating disorders.

i think it’s dangerous having a friend who struggles with an eating disorder when you have one yourself, you’ve got to be really strong not to let you pull down by the other one

Adrienne is SO inspiring! Really a role model, incredibly strong. I hope she won’t relapse because she cares so much about her friend (that’s what I experienced)… Heather’s struggling so bad, I wish her the same sunshine and life in her eyes as her friend!

Also-Did you know that clothing lines used to use curvier girls as models? (Marilyn Monroe was NOT a size 4) The public paid to much attention to the beauty of the women in the clothes, not the clothes on the women. So, they put the clothes on the really skinny girls and PRESTO the public pays attention to the clothes. AND-another interesting fact: women who model for nude/erotic usually have more weight on them too-

I had a friend from Lithuania. She was shocked by this disease while in the US because she’d never seen it before! But she also said that the media and society she grew up in didn’t put value to the bony VOGUE look that’s popular in the US now.

I worry so much for Heather, and for the diabulimic- even if she recovers it may already be too late and she could go blind. :(

I worry about Tracy… she talks about her drive for recovery this time is the need to be there for her daughter’s wedding. THat’s a great goal, but what will happen once the wedding planning, activities and events are over?

I always wonder why anorexia isn’t an issue in third world countries. Why do we struggle when we have too much?

i think she is, i just wanted to say that it`s so sad that this illness is so weird in regard to body perception. i know it for myself but seeing it from an outsider`s perspective… it`s creepy

do you think she’s not really in recovery b/c of her weight right now?

I agree! Heather seemed to be really stuck on thinking that she was bigger than Adrianne and that just shows how deep into her eating disorder she is. You can tell that she weighs less than Adrianne does – and remember, anorexics are very good at hiding their true weight from others!

Heather and Adrienne don’t look the same. Heather is so much thinner than her because she’s still struggling so much.

It’s sad that Heather thinks she’s bigger than Adrienne.

it`s so sad that heather and adrienne look almost the same in regard of weight. this illness is so bad

This is a huge struggle for so many people world wide. All the women seem genuine in the film and honest, I have so much admiration to all the women involved, partiularly Heather who still seems to be suffering.
