    Because lying, unless it is done compusively and as a symptom of an underlying mental illness, is not considered a disease the way that bulimia is.

    Endemic lying is not considered a mental disease unless it is irrationally based. Just as kleptomania only applies to people who steal compulsively and without financial motive, when a politician lies, he has certain intentions, among them being financial gain. Only when people lie without reason is it considered a mental disorder- it’s called “pseudologia fantastica.” Oh the things one learns in psychology class!
